Fun day at the park

This morning Kileigh and I went to a few rummage sales.  At the first sale, I found a Leapfrog phonics radio that teaches the letter sounds.  At the next sale I found a scarecrow porch decoration.  I picked up a puzzle, a mower that has balls in it that pop up as you push it, and a leapfrog learning system with books.  At the last sale, I found a slide for grandma and grandpa's house.  After we were done, we headed over to grandma and grandpa's house to pick them up and head to the zoo.  They had packed a picnic lunch so we could eat at the zoo.  On the way there, I was teaching Kileigh some new words.  I would say "Kileigh say, nana" and she would repeat it and then "papa".  She had a bit of difficulty with park and zoo.  She has no problem with saying no though.  She likes to sign "thank you", "more", and "eat".  Of course when we got to their house, she was too shy to share her new words.

After we loaded up the car, we set off for the zoo to find a big traffic jam on 1st Ave.  After waiting in the left lane, I switched to the right lane thinking we would bypass all the traffic and zip into the north parking lot.  Boy was I wrong!  There was a traffic jam on both sides of 1st Ave and going eastbound on Odgen Ave to turn left on 1st Ave.  After waiting in the left lane at the light to turn for the north parking lot for about 10 minutes and not moving, we decided to forgo the zoo and head to a park instead.  We met Kevin after work at a local park.  When we first got there, Kileigh made a beeline directly for the playground.  She LOVES slides.  After awhile, we were able to get her to take a break and ate our picnic lunch.  Kileigh sure enjoyed the afternoon playing at the park.  Grandma and grandpa enjoyed taking turns taking her down the slides.    Usually she doesn't like to swing, but I was able to get her to swing by putting her on my lap.  A little while later a family showed up and a little girl was in a swing and grandma put Kileigh in the swing next to her.  She actually enjoyed herself and stayed in for about 10 minutes.  We decided to stop pushing her when we noticed she was getting tired, so we decided it was time to leave.  Kileigh usually doesn't like to leave the park, but we knew she wouldn't fight it too much this time knowing she was going to fall asleep on the way home.  We dropped grandma and grandpa off at home and she was out cold pretty quickly.  She pretty much slept the whole way home.  Traffic was terrible, but since it took longer, it gave her longer to sleep.  When we got home, she went outside to play with her toys.  She is such an outdoorsy girl.

Spring break

So this is the first year in awhile that we haven't gone anywhere for spring break.  We never booked a vacation, because we thought Kevin might get the job in Panama City or Indy and wouldn't be able to travel if he did or we would need to use the time to look at houses.  Well he didn't get either job and we are still here.  Then a business trip came up and Kevin was supposed to go to Dallas for 3-4 days, so Kileigh and I had planned to join him.  Recently the flights were looking fairly packed and we were thinking that we were going to have to stay home and then the trip was cancelled.  Woo Hoo!  We lucked out with the weather this week, since we stayed home.  Last Saturday was the egg scramble for church.  Sunday and Monday we did a lot of errands, picking stuff up for the house, and doing some house/yard work.  I also continued with yard work Tuesday & Wednesday.  Kevin took a half-day Wednesday and we took a picnic lunch and went to eat lunch with his dad.  We went to a park and Kileigh didn't want to sit still to eat.  All she wanted to do was play.  We left there and planned to spend the afternoon at the zoo, but Kileigh fell asleep and his parents were planning to take Friday (today) off and wanted to go this afternoon instead.  So we went home and put Kileigh down for a nap and decided to burn all the branches laying around and stuff I pulled out of the flower beds.  I bought some new bulbs and flower seeds to plant, so in a couple weeks I will be ready to go.  This week Kileigh has had a lot of outside/park time and a lot of ice cream.  Both of which she LOVES!  Yesterday (Thursday) I took Kileigh to have Easter pictures taken.  They turned out great.  See my post from yesterday for pictures or facebook.  Then we drove over and met grandma (Kevin's mom) for lunch.  We came home, changed, and then met Sarai and Margaret at the park.  We walked for an hour.  When we got back to the cars, she told me about her church service/dinner that night and invited us.  Since we didn't have plans, we decided to go.  So when I got home, I uploaded some pictures, took a shower, and off to church we went.  Kileigh enjoyed running around and seeing Margaret again.  Poor Kevin was wore out chasing her around.  We decided on Sunday, we are going to let her stay with us during the music part of the service since Kileigh loves music and dancing.  I think she will love that and then when they stop for the "go fill up your coffee" time, we will take her to the nursery.

Goal Update

Now that April is here, I thought I would revisit my goals that I made for the year.

#1:  Read the bible daily -- Kevin and I started reading every night and then we did almost every night the 2nd week when he was out of town and more recently it has been sporatically.

Last weekend we ate dinner at Sweet Tomatoes and there is a Christian bookstore next door, so we popped in for a quick look.  We saw a cross that we liked for our wall, but if you have been to our house, you would know that we have a lot of things on ours walls already and we have to play switch-a-roo when we get new stuff.  Kevin had found a cross necklace that he bought me laying around the house.  It was yellow gold and I prefer silver, which is why I was wasn't wearing it.  He put it on so it wouldn't get lost and liked it, so I decided to look for a silver one for myself.  I found one I liked and it happened to be 50% off, which was even better.  Kevin wandered over to the bible section and found a bible that he liked and mentioned that we should update our bibles since we had still been using our college ones and we have been out of college for several years now.  We ended up picking up one NIV Life Application Bible and thought we would try it out and if we both liked it, we would go back and get another one.  We used it for bible study on Saturday night and then took it to church on Sunday and were like ok this is awesome.  It has notes at the bottom that explain the scriptures further.  So after church we had lunch and swung by Barnes & Noble to see if they had it.  Kevin initially bought the NIT version, so he had to return it, but then found the NIV version of the bible there for the same price we paid at the Christian bookstore, but with my 10% discount card since I am a B & N member.

Anyway reading the bible daily is still a work in progress...........

#2:  Pray daily....I try to do this when I am in the shower or driving or have alone time and now wait till at night when I am getting ready for bed.  Just like reading the bible, I do good for a day or two and then I slack off again.  Kevin and I decided that we need to be praying with Kileigh before meals and before bedtime, so we can set the example for her and teach her spiritual discipline at a young age.  I know friends that do that with their kids and I think that is really cool and I want to do that with Kileigh too.

#3:  Go to church regularly....we started going to a new church at the end of January at the invitation of friends and have been going for two months now.  We only missed two Sundays, so I would say that's pretty good considering our past history of going for awhile and then not going for months.  Spring is here and summer is quickly approaching and when we are typically busy travelling, so we'll see how we do.  We invited my in-laws to go with us one Sunday.  My mother-in-law went and ever since she's been going to mass by her house.  We are still "working" on my father-in-law.  We even with a friend last night to Maundy Thursday service at her church, since ours didn't have one.  Actually we went more for the free dinner, but it was nice to be back in a Methodist church, since we aren't currently going to one.

#4:  Join a bible study.......I did, however, it was cancelled due to lack of advertising and I was the only one who signed up.  I was bummed, but am waiting patiently for another opportunity to present itself.

#5:  Read more books........I have read a few Nicholas Sparks books recently (Dear John, True Believer and At First Sight).  I checked a bunch of new books before spring break, but never got around to reading them.  I guess I am going to have to renew them.  Now that the weather is warming up, I would like to spend more time outside reading.  I wish we had a fence, because Miss Kileigh likes to take off and it would be easier to be able to read if I didn't have to have my eyes on her constantly.
