Prayers have been answered

Praise God for answering our prayers!  Our friend Clay who went to Haiti arrived home safe and sound with the girls in tow.  We are so happy that girls were able to come home and ask for continued prayers while they adjust to life in the states with their new family.

College Basketball

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE College Basketball!  It's hard when my favorite teams are playing at the same time though, because then I miss parts of the game while flipping back and forth during commercials.  Unfortunately Duke lost to Georgetown, but Illinois beat Indiana.  ISU plays this afternoon too.

All 3 of us woke up feeling a little crummy today, so we had to cancel our plans to have a date night, because we don't want our friends to watch Kileigh for the first time when she is sick.  So now we are going to rent a video game for the Wii, a movie, and stay in this evening.

Chi Tung & Oberweis

Last night Kevin brought home Chi Tung (our favorite Chinese restaurant) for dinner and then we went to Oberweis for ice cream.  It was nice family time, since Kevin will be gone next week on business.

Last weekend

I am little behind on my blogging, so now it's catch up time.  Friday afternoon I found out that it was Argo's Alumni Night, where Kevin went to high school.  We decided to go the basketball game and stay at his parent's house.  We left Kileigh with grandma and grandpa, while we went to the game.  Kevin ran into his old band director and enjoyed catching up with him for a bit.  We went over to the VFW afterward for a drink, but didn't see anyone he knew.  We went back to my in-laws house and crashed.

Saturday morning Kileigh and I hung out while Kevin went to work and my in-laws went to a memorial service.  While Kileigh took a nap, I thought I would surprise my mother-in-law by doing the dishes, laundry, and some vacumming.  When they all returned, we went to Kevin's cousin's house for her daughter's 1st birthday party.  Kileigh and Zoe are only 3 1/2 months apart, so it's fun to see them starting to interact together.  After the party, Kevin and I went to see Leap Year while grandma and grandpa got some Kileigh time.

Sunday was my mother-in-law's birthday.  Her sister Joy who lives in Racine and one of her friend's came down to celebrate with us.  We watched some football, had some lasagna, ate some cake and kringle.  We got her Mamma Mia on blu ray, since we got them a blu ray player for Christmas.  We also got her a cross with a saying for Moms on it.  My mother-in-law collects Precious Moments figurines, so we got her a figurine of a little girl holding a sign that says I Love You and an I love grandma decoration from Kileigh.

This week was basically just work, eat, sleep, work, eat, sleep....well you get the drill.

Doing nothing and everything at the same time

Nothing interesting happened at the McCarthy house this week.   Same old, same old.  Work, dinner, watch tv, go to bed and get up the next day to do it all over again.  However, the one thing that I will remember most about this week was the earthquake in Haiti.  We have friends who are currently in the process to adopt two girls from an orphanage in Port-a-Prince, Haiti.  Unfortunately the orphanage was damaged during the earthquake and aftershocks this week.  Thank god their girls and the others at the orphanage are alive and safe as they have been moved to another location.  All week Kevin and I were anxiously awaiting updates from Clay and Lee on their facebook pages.  Clay has a flight booked next week, so we are praying that he will get there to bring necessary supplies to the kids and staff of the orphanage.  Kevin and I often are in each other's heads thinking the same thing at the same time.  Yesterday Kileigh and I took the contents of her piggy bank and bottle from her closet to the store and cashed in the coins.  Since Kileigh and I were out running errands, I just ran by the Deeter's house to drop off the cash.  Lee and I talked briefly while Clay was on the phone.  We hugged and then I left.  Little did I know that Kevin had talked to Clay about his flight, baggage restrictions, and the works.  We both wanted to help and were being led to do what we were able at that moment.  Now that we know the other items that they need, we are going to pick up more supplies for Clay to take with him.  Lee left us a message this morning saying that my hug meant the world and Kevin's call really helped calm Clay down.  What seems so little to us, means the world to someone else.  I can't imagine what they are going through, but I know that if the tables were reversed, they would be doing the same thing to help us.

Flash back to Friday afternoon...

I went over to our friends Paul and Sarai's house after work.  They are in the process of remodeling their house and are also anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first child next month.  Sarai and I primed the nursery, so that we could paint on Saturday.  The priming took a couple hours and then I left, went home, had dinner, changed, laid in bed and watched a couple shows, and then went to bed at 9:30pm.  I was wiped out.  Yesterday Kileigh had to do some shopping for Baby Case...actually now I can officially call her Margaret.  We are planning to go to my parent's house the weekend of her shower, so I needed to get a few more things and then I wrapped the presents and delivered them yesterday when I went over to help paint the nursery.  When I got there, Sarai was so excited and wanted to open the presents right away.  It was exciting to watch her ohh and ahhh at everything.  I remember how exciting it was to get gifts for Kileigh and it still is.  Actually it's almost more fun now because she can actually open her own presents now.  It took Sarai awhile to go through everything....there were three bags full of books, clothes, teethers, bibs, blankets, and even some free samples.  I had to freecycle a few items, but there's nothing wrong with that.   After that, we went to work painting the nursery.  Sarai's friend Danielle was there to help as well.  She worked on the trim around the windows, at the top, and at the bottom.  I worked on the solo pink wall, while Sarai painted the other walls cream.  When I left, they were just finishing up the trim.  Things are definitely going to start falling into place now that the nursery is painted.  I am excited to see the finished product, especially with the quilt that Sarai made.

Last night we went to dinner with the Brumfield's.  It had been a month since we had seen them last.  There was a new steakhouse by their house, so we decided to try it out.  It was very similar to Texas Roadhouse, which is by us.  We thought it was good, but gave Texas Roadhouse a one up on the Cattlehouse.  After dinner, we went back to Jen and Jon's house and flipped around on the tube.  We played 4 rounds of bowling on the Wii.  I won 3 of the 4 rounds.  Kevin finally beat me on 1 round after playing me last Saturday and Sunday and losing both times.  It was fun, but like all good things, they do have to come to an end.  Kileigh was tired and up past her bedtime.  When we got home, Kevin put her to bed and we hit the sack ourselves.  He got up with Kileigh this morning and I slept till almost 9.

So Kevin and I are off today and tomorrow and we have no plans.  How fabulous is that!

Hope you all have a good day!

Game night & our first experience with the Wii

Last night we were invited to a game night with our fellowship group from church.  One of the couples were hosting at their house, so we lined up for Kileigh to go to Kevin's parents house for the night.  Kevin's dad came to pick her up after work and then we had dinner at Portillos.  When we arrived, they were doing an icebreaker game, Have you ever......  After that, we split into a few groups.  Some people went upstairs and did the Wii cow racing, another group was in the kitchen playing Skipbo, and my group played a couple hands of yahtzee.  I got to try my hand at the cow racing before we left.

We actually got our own Wii yesterday and I am looking forward to trying all the games out and seeing how everything works.  Since I had the house to myself this morning with Kileigh was at Grandma and Grandpa's house and Kevin was at work, I decided to try my first workout.  I wanted the Wii Fit Plus and Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2010, so Kevin picked those up when he got the Wii consule.  I tried the Ultimate 6 resolution on the Jillian dvd.  I think that must have been a mistake because right off the bat, I had to run for 5 minutes.  I don't know the last time I worked out, let alone ran.  There was jumping jacks, pushups, crunches, jackhammer slam, etc.  After awhile I turned it off, because I didn't want to push it and injure myself or make myself so sore that I quit before I even really get started.  I think I am going go back to the Wii Fit Plus and use that initially until I start to get into my routine and see some results and then maybe go back to the Jillian beat my butt workouts.

I am off to go bowling, Wii bowling that is.

Have a good day!

Happy New Year

We spent a quiet New Year's Eve at home this year.  My in-laws came over and we feasted on a bunch of appetizers, the guys had mojitos and the gals had mudslides.  Kileigh went to bed early and we watched the Jeff Dunham Christmas special and fell asleep on the couch.  We woke up just before the countdown to midnight in New York and watched the ball drop on tv.  We decided we need to play a game in order to make it till midnight.  We played a few rounds of racko and then toasted the New Year and then turned in for the night.  Kevin had to go back to work Friday at 3am, so he didn't get much sleep.  New Year's Day was a pretty lazy day.  We had breakfast and coffee.  My mom arrived around 11:30 and shortly after that Kevin got home from work.  I put Kileigh down for a nap and my in-laws left.  Kevin dozed off and when Kileigh woke up, we left and went to the mall.  We did a little shopping at Sears and JC Penney, got some coffee from Gloria Jeans, went to Kohls and then went home to be greated by wonderful smells that Kevin was cooking up in the kitchen.  He made us shrimp scampi and garlic bread.  It was delicious!

Saturday my mom and I took Kileigh to the Illinois basketball game at the United Center.  We ended up being up at the very top, which worked out great because there were concessions right behind our seats and a big area for Kileigh to walk around.  We got a big pizza to split before the game and left Kileigh walk off some energy.  Kileigh was wearing an Illini cheerleading outfit and looked absolutely adorable.  Everyone kept commenting on how cute she was.  She did pretty well during the game and would clap her hands to cheer.  My mom took her for a walk at half-time.  Towards the end of the 2nd half, she finally fell asleep.  Poor thing was tired and is teething and seems to be having a bit of a rough time with it.  Unfortunately they lost in OT, but it was a good game.  We let the stands clear out and then met up with my parent's friends after the game and chatted with them until we were told to leave.  They had a Bulls game to get ready for that evening, so we took off for the car.  Luckily we didn't have to walk too far since it was brutally cold out.  By the time we got to the car and got Kileigh strapped in, the parking lot was pretty cleaned out which made it easy to leave.

We drove to my in-laws house after the game because my brother-in-law was in town and we hadn't exchanged presents yet.  Kevin's grandma and a few aunts and uncles came by as well.  We opened presents before dinner.  Brendan got Kileigh an ASU cheerleading outfit and we got some blu ray dvds.

Yesterday we went to church and relaxed the rest of the day.  We watched the Bears game and I returned the dogs that we were sitting for.

Today was my first day back at work after having two weeks off.

Plans for this week:

Tuesday night:  Biggest Loser
Wednesday night: Duke Game
Friday night:  Game night
Saturday:  Road trip to Iowa
Sunday:  Beth's Ann graduation party

Have a good week everyone!
