Nothing interesting happened at the McCarthy house this week. Same old, same old. Work, dinner, watch tv, go to bed and get up the next day to do it all over again. However, the one thing that I will remember most about this week was the earthquake in Haiti. We have friends who are currently in the process to adopt two girls from an orphanage in Port-a-Prince, Haiti. Unfortunately the orphanage was damaged during the earthquake and aftershocks this week. Thank god their girls and the others at the orphanage are alive and safe as they have been moved to another location. All week Kevin and I were anxiously awaiting updates from Clay and Lee on their facebook pages. Clay has a flight booked next week, so we are praying that he will get there to bring necessary supplies to the kids and staff of the orphanage. Kevin and I often are in each other's heads thinking the same thing at the same time. Yesterday Kileigh and I took the contents of her piggy bank and bottle from her closet to the store and cashed in the coins. Since Kileigh and I were out running errands, I just ran by the Deeter's house to drop off the cash. Lee and I talked briefly while Clay was on the phone. We hugged and then I left. Little did I know that Kevin had talked to Clay about his flight, baggage restrictions, and the works. We both wanted to help and were being led to do what we were able at that moment. Now that we know the other items that they need, we are going to pick up more supplies for Clay to take with him. Lee left us a message this morning saying that my hug meant the world and Kevin's call really helped calm Clay down. What seems so little to us, means the world to someone else. I can't imagine what they are going through, but I know that if the tables were reversed, they would be doing the same thing to help us.
Flash back to Friday afternoon...
I went over to our friends Paul and Sarai's house after work. They are in the process of remodeling their house and are also anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first child next month. Sarai and I primed the nursery, so that we could paint on Saturday. The priming took a couple hours and then I left, went home, had dinner, changed, laid in bed and watched a couple shows, and then went to bed at 9:30pm. I was wiped out. Yesterday Kileigh had to do some shopping for Baby Case...actually now I can officially call her Margaret. We are planning to go to my parent's house the weekend of her shower, so I needed to get a few more things and then I wrapped the presents and delivered them yesterday when I went over to help paint the nursery. When I got there, Sarai was so excited and wanted to open the presents right away. It was exciting to watch her ohh and ahhh at everything. I remember how exciting it was to get gifts for Kileigh and it still is. Actually it's almost more fun now because she can actually open her own presents now. It took Sarai awhile to go through everything....there were three bags full of books, clothes, teethers, bibs, blankets, and even some free samples. I had to freecycle a few items, but there's nothing wrong with that. After that, we went to work painting the nursery. Sarai's friend Danielle was there to help as well. She worked on the trim around the windows, at the top, and at the bottom. I worked on the solo pink wall, while Sarai painted the other walls cream. When I left, they were just finishing up the trim. Things are definitely going to start falling into place now that the nursery is painted. I am excited to see the finished product, especially with the quilt that Sarai made.
Last night we went to dinner with the Brumfield's. It had been a month since we had seen them last. There was a new steakhouse by their house, so we decided to try it out. It was very similar to Texas Roadhouse, which is by us. We thought it was good, but gave Texas Roadhouse a one up on the Cattlehouse. After dinner, we went back to Jen and Jon's house and flipped around on the tube. We played 4 rounds of bowling on the Wii. I won 3 of the 4 rounds. Kevin finally beat me on 1 round after playing me last Saturday and Sunday and losing both times. It was fun, but like all good things, they do have to come to an end. Kileigh was tired and up past her bedtime. When we got home, Kevin put her to bed and we hit the sack ourselves. He got up with Kileigh this morning and I slept till almost 9.
So Kevin and I are off today and tomorrow and we have no plans. How fabulous is that!
Hope you all have a good day!
Beth
