Kevin, Kileigh, and I did a day trip to San Francisco on Wednesday to have lunch and explore a little bit of the city. We flew into Oakland and were on the BART (train) by 12pm. We were planning to get off downtown, but the train wasn't going that far, so we got off at the Embarcadero and then walked to Pier 39. We walked through the shops and decided to have lunch at Bubba Gumps. We ordered peel and eat shrimp with half garlic and half cajun sauce. Kevin ordered a burger and I ordered a bowl of clam chowder. The shrimp were great and Kileigh loved them too. She even ate them whole. Kevin enjoyed his burger and Kileigh enjoyed the fries and my clam chowder more than I did. I should have ordered the shrimp tacos. Oh well!
After lunch, we walked around Fisherman's Wharf and decided to take a cable car ride back downtown. The ride was fun and when we got off, we decided to go get some gelato. We found a place right across the street in the mall. Wow they had quite the food court! If I was hungry, I would have ordered some pasta or something oriental because it was all made to order. The gelato was awesome! Kevin and Kileigh shared the cookies 'n cream and I had double espresso.
After dessert, we headed to catch the BART back to the airport. When we arrived and went through security, we realized our flight was delayed an hour and a half, so we checked for an earlier flight and found one leaving in 30 minutes. That one stopped in Burbank, but with no change of planes got us back to Phoenix around the time our original flight was scheduled to leave Oakland.
We had a fun day, but next time I want to check out North Beach and Chinatown and possibly do a cruise to Alcatraz.
